Whether you are a road cyclist or mountain biker Calistoga is the ideal vacation destination for cycling enthusiasts looking for an active vacation. Calistoga offers something for all levels of cyclists: flat car-free paved trails or challenging mountain routes (8 climbs within 8 miles of downtown totalling over 12K feet across 40 miles). The area also features year-round cycling friendly weather and local cycling guides. Post-ride there much to enjoy: world-class cuisine, wineries, breweries and a range of lodging options, including camping and an RV park. The town was originally founded as a wellness resort, thus many of its hotels offer hot spring fed mineral baths and fitness facilities, perfect for recovery and cross-training.
A highlight is the 8-mile Napa Valley Vine Trail section which connects Calistoga to the charming town of St Helena. The Vine Trail takes cyclists through vineyards and Bothe-Napa State Park, past wineries and culinary hot spots and allows cyclists to be able to safely connect to tranquil backroads (popular routes). For those looking to venture further, there are cycling routes further into Napa Valley and to Sonoma County’s world-class cycling routes, including the Levi’s GranFondo routes.
